Borderline Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-10-06

Borderline is an iPhone app, published by SaruAI, that measures the centering of trading cards from a photo. It has no accounts and no ads. This page says what the app stores, what leaves your phone, and what you can do about it.

What stays on your phone

Your saved cards, their photos and their measurements are stored on your device. We cannot see them.

The app also keeps a copy of each finished scan in the app's own folder in your iCloud Drive, if iCloud Drive is on. That folder is in your iCloud account, under your control, and we have no access to it.

Shared scans (only if you turn it on)

Borderline asks once whether you want to share your finished scans to help improve its automatic edge detection. Nothing is shared unless you say yes, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings › Data & Sharing.

If sharing is on, each finished scan sends:

Shared scans do not include your name, an account, your location, your device's name or any advertising identifier. The photo is re-encoded before sending, which removes the camera's metadata. A photo can still show whatever was around the card when you took it.

Shared scans are sent only over Wi-Fi, are stored with Cloudflare, and are used only to test and improve Borderline's detection. They are not sold, and not shared with anyone else.

Deleting them. Settings › Data & Sharing › Delete My Shared Scans removes every scan stored under your device's ID from our storage. Because scans are not linked to you, we cannot find yours any other way: if you delete the app first, write to us and we will explain what is possible.

Checking in

When you open it, the app asks our server whether this version is still supported, whether there is a notice to show, and what its sharing settings are. The request says nothing about you or your cards, and we do not store it. Like any request on the internet it carries your IP address as far as Cloudflare, which hosts the server.

Usage counts

The app sends anonymous counts of how it is used, such as that a scan was started, which screen a button was tapped on, and how long detection took, through TelemetryDeck. These contain no photos, card names or card numbers and cannot be traced back to a person.

Crash reports and bug reports

If the app crashes, a report is sent through Sentry with the technical details of the crash, the app version, the iPhone model and the iOS version. Your IP address and device name are not stored.

If you choose Report a Bug, we receive what you write, an email address if you enter one, and any screenshots or the last scan if you choose to attach them.

What we do not do

How long things are kept

Shared scans are kept until you delete them or until they are no longer useful for improving detection. Crash reports, bug reports and usage counts are kept for the periods set by the services that hold them.

Children

Borderline is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If what the app collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated.
